Tough week for squad at County Match Week

Ella Mason shined bright for Cambs and Hunts ladies despite the squad having a difficult time at County Match Week in Hunstanton.

The Ely City player was making her debut appearance for the county, and won two and halved two of her eight games in a week which saw Cambs and Hunts lose all five games.

They were beaten 7-2 by Bedfordshire in the opening game, with the points coming from Gog Magog’s Jade Guest with a 3&2 win; and halves for Mason and Ely City’s Laura Todd, who earned her county colours.

On day two, they suffered a 5½-3½ defeat to Hertfordshire.

Gog Magog’s Tabitha Brain and the Links’ Jackie Ewing earned a half in the foursomes, while Mason (7&5) and county captain Marcella Tuttle (two up) won their singles matches.

The third day opponents were Essex, and Cambs and Hunts were beaten 8-1, with Ewing getting the only point, a 6&5 victory in the singles.

Cambs and Hunts faced Suffolk on day four, and they suffered an 8½-½ defeat.

Mason and Brain got the half in the foursomes.

There was a good start for Cambs and Hunts in their final match, against Norfolk.

Brain and Mason won two up, Tuttle and Sarah Greenall triumphed 2&1 and Laura Tuttle and Todd won one up to give them a 3-0 lead, but it fell away in the afternoon singles as Norfolk triumphed overall 5½-3½.

Suffolk won the overall East Region Championship.
