Grafham Water Sailing Club enjoy success during second round of Cambridgeshire Youth Sailing League action

Hosts Grafham Water Sailing Club won the top team prize at the second meeting of the 2024 Cambridgeshire Youth Sailing League earlier this month.

Thirty sailors from five different clubs took part in the event – and they were greeted with unseasonably cold and windy conditions.

Nevertheless, that did not hamper the performance of Tim Evans, who won two of the three races to put Grafham Water at the summit of the standings with 24 points alongside contributions from club-mates Adele Burbidge, Skye Collard and Freddie Reeves.

Evans also triumphed in the individual competition, with Ely Sailing Club’s Kieran Vanhoutte finishing as the runner-up – thanks in part to his victory in race one. Another Grafham member – Burbidge – completed the top three.

The top under-15 sailor award went the way of Ely’s Edward Human, while the under-12 accolade was collected by Hunts Sailing Club’s Isaac Wilcox.

The prize for the youngest competitor in the field went to nine-year-old Michael Hatton from Ely, with the Endeavour award going to the race management team of Dotty West, who represented Waterbeach-based Cam Sailing Club.

The next Cambridgeshire Youth Sailing League meeting will be hosted by Ely on Saturday, 6 July.
