Cambridge United will face fellow League One side Wigan Athletic in second round of FA Cup after Woking victory

Cambridge United have been drawn at home to Wigan Athletic in the second round of the FA Cup.

The U’s booked their place in this evening’s draw thanks to yesterday’s 1-0 victory at National League outfit Woking.

And their reward is a clash against fellow League One outfit Wigan at the Cledara Abbey Stadium over the weekend of 30 November.

Cambridge will go into the tie with positive memories of their recent encounter against the Latics on 19 October. Garry Monk’s men headed into that fixture winless from their last 18 encounters in all competitions, but they stopped the rot as Elias Kachunga and an own goal from Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle sealed a 2-0 victory.

Since then United have embarked on a four-match winning streak, with clean sheets in each of those triumphs.

Wigan, who famously won the competition in 2013 at the expense of Manchester City, needed extra time to beat League Two club Carlisle United 2-0 in the first round on Saturday.

The meeting will be the first between the two teams in the FA Cup.
