Three goals in extra time see United into round two of the Emirates FA Cup

Shaun Derry saluted his players after they twice came from behind to overcome non-league Dover in a cracking FA Cup first round replay.

Goals from Mark Roberts, Leon Legge, Medy Elito and Ben Williamson, his first of the season, earned United a home tie in round two against Coventry City.

Cambridge looked to be heading out of the competition in front of the BT Sport cameras when Dover took a 2-1 lead in extra time.

Ricky Miller put Dover ahead on 70 minutes and it looked to be enough secure victory but Mark Roberts popped up with a dramatic late equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time.

But Asward Thomas restored Dover’s lead in extra time and United appeared to be on the cusp of going out.

However, in a rousing second half of extra time, goals from Legge, Elito and Williamson, secured a fine win for Derry’s side.

The United boss said: “I’m pleased we didn’t go out. I am very proud of my team. It would have been a crime if we’d come away without the opportunity to play in round two.”
