Cambridge City Hockey Club enjoy experience of playing in annual Mortensrud-Aker Sportsklubb tournament in Norway
A number of players from Cambridge City Hockey Club spent the weekend playing in a competition in Norway.
City were invited to feature in the annual Mortensrud-Aker Sportsklubb (MASK) tournament due to the fact that one of their members – Alex Johnssen – is part of the Norwegian senior indoor team.
This year’s event marked the opening of the new national hockey centre in Oslo – all under the watchful eye of the European Hockey Federation’s vice president Inez Cooper.
A number of City players featured in an exhibition women’s match, while the club also entered a mixed team into a men’s competition and duly finished runners-up after an impressive group stage that saw them record four victories and one draw.
However, the club did not return to England empty handed, with their conduct on and off the pitch being recognised with the Fair Play Award.
City’s honorary vice president Simon Webb said of the trip: “We are very grateful to MASK for inviting us to the event.
“It was a fabulous experience to experience hockey in Norway, to support the umpires and to celebrate the new venue.
“The facilities were stunning and the hosts brilliant. We were delighted to see the support EuroHockey gave the event and it was wonderful to talk all things hockey with Inez.
“Thank you again to Kruram Shehzad and the rest of the MASK club for inviting us – we are planning our return next year.”
Meanwhile, closer to home the club’s two first teams have been warming up for their respective 2024/25 campaigns with a batch of friendlies.
The matches marked senior debuts for Ella Chen, Charlotte Denny-Goulsdon and Henry Denny-Goulsdon – all of whom have come through the junior ranks at the club.
