Wisbech Town crushed by South

Sophie McComish was in scintillating form for Cambridge South as they won 8-0 at Wisbech Town II in the East Women’s Hockey League, Division 2NW.

She scored five goals as Alice Hug got two and Alison Small got one to take South to the top of the fledgling table.

Ellie Martin scored for Cambridge Nomads as they drew 1-1 at St Ives II.

Molly Redgrove gave Cambridge City Ladies the lead in the 55th minute of their Investec Women’s Hockey League Conference East match against Wimbledon. But the visitors hit back through Eliza Brett, Crista Cullen and Nicola Lloyd to win 3-1.

Meanwhile, The Perse School girls’ senior team have won the Cambridgeshire schools’ title for a fourth year in a row.

Captain Anna Traherne scored in the opening match, a 1-0 win over Saffron Walden County High School.

Hannah Boston and Libby Gower Isaac struck in the 2-0 victory over St Mary’s School, Flo Brimblecombe and Boston were on target in the 2-0 triumph over SPF and Traherne notched a double in a 2-0 success over Wisbech Grammar School.

The Perse beat The Leys 2-0 in the semi-final, thanks to goals from Traherne and Elizabeth Townsend, and won the tournament by beating Kimbolton School 3-0 in the final, with Traherne, Natasha Stonebridge and Townsend on target.

And it was a great tournament for the Perse goalkeeper Sofia Baldelli, who did not concede a goal in the six games.

The Perse now go through to represent Cambridgeshire in the East region round of the Investec Schools’ Championships at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, on October 10.
