Histon bring Matt Hayden back to Bridge Road after Ed Rolph opts to take a break from football

Histon manager Chris Nunn has reacted quickly to replace Ed Rolph with the signing of Matt Hayden.

The Stutes announced earlier today that Rolph – a scorer of 75 goals in 159 appearances for the club – had decided to take a break from football.

Nunn said of the forward’s departure: “Ed Rolph has informed me of his decision to step away from football. This is something that we have discussed over the previous few weeks.

“He’s great lad and I’m really thankful of his contribution to the club both before and after I arrived. I wish every success both on the off the pitch. A top lad.”

And it is a familiar face that has stepped in to fill the void left by Rolph.

Hayden, who has most recently been turning out for fellow Uhlsport United Counties Premier Division South side Godmanchester Rovers, scored 15 goals for Histon during the 2017/18 campaign.

The well-travelled striker has previously turned out for the likes of Mildenhall Town, Newmarket Town, Ely City, Lakenheath, Wroxham and Hadleigh United.

Nunn added: “Matt is an experienced striker. We will work hard as a management team to get the best out of Matt. If we do we will have a very good player on our hands.

“With Ed’s departure we had to move quickly. Matt made it clear he wanted to play for Histon again, so it made it a no-brainer.”

Nunn’s men are due to be on the road at Easington Sports tomorrow.
