Foxton miss out on title with final day defeat to Saffron Walden
And Sawston & Babraham finish fourth
Saffron Walden were the last day heroes of Whiting & Partners Cambs and Hunts Premier League, Division One by taking the title with a six-wicket win over Foxton.
All was to play for on the final day of the season, with four teams in with a shout of finishing first.
Foxton won the toss at Walden, and elected to bat.
Ryan Francis made 49 and Adam Webster hit 41, but Foxton were dismissed for 178, with Ben Harris taking three for 31.
Ravi Mahendra claimed the scalps of two Walden batsmen, but Stephen Larsen’s 68 and Giles Ecclestone’s 47 had laid the foundations for the win, and Harris saw them home with 31 as they made 180 for 4.
Walden faced Worlington on Sunday in the promotion play-offs and progressed through.
Sawston & Babraham finished in fourth place after a 17-run defeat to Eaton Socon, who beat them to third place.
It looked promising for Sawston & Babraham as having won the toss and elected to field, they had Eaton Socon at 102 for 7.
But 81 from Wade Lezar in a 104-run partnership with Terry Day helped them reach 216 before they were bowled out.
Mark Smith had figures of four for 38.
Sawston & Babraham’s reply kept ticking along without any huge scores, and it was Robert Mackay’s 38 that nearly edged them home, but they ended up being bowled out for 199.
