Freya Standing bags a brace for Cambridge City Development in win over King's Lynn
Freya Standing scored twice for Cambridge City Development as they clinched a 3-1 win over King’s Lynn in Eastern Region Women’s Football League, Division One.
The Lilywhites broke the deadlock just before half time as Ellie Cullum won the ball in midfield and passed to Standing, whose cross was met first time by Carla Penny to drive the ball home from just outside the area.
Five minutes after half time, Standing conjured a goal from nothing, firing in a left-foot volley from the edge of the box.
Lynn were back in the game within 10 minutes as Becky Russell scored from a free kick from outside the area and City then had to weather a brief storm.
City got the decisive goal in the 65th minute as player-of-the-match Bella Simmons hit a diagonal ball to Standing wide on the right, who cut in and fired home from 20 yards.
Five Jessicas lined up for Cambridge City A as they won 3-2 against Netherton United in the S-Tech Women’s Premiership, with Jessica Elliott, Sofia Castiglione and Ceri Flye on target.
Cambridge United Women suffered a 3-1 defeat to Actonians in the FA Women’s National League, Division One South East, with Kelley Blanchflower scoring their goal.
