Cambridge United Sport in the Community Awards

Fulbourn Primary School is the winner of the school of the month for their outstanding support for children with special needs and a wide range of disabilities within the school.

The school provides consistent and high quality 1:1 support during physical education lessons, giving each child the opportunity to succeed academically and physically.

Fulbourn Primary provide any child that needs additional care the opportunity to excel in sport.

John Willis, the founder and CEO of Power2Inspire, who work to create a more inclusive society through sport, said: “Fulbourn Primary School is a beacon for inclusive attitude to sport and play. Power2inspire has visited a number of times to give school assembly talks and to join in with their Race for Life.

“This latter event became a Power2inspire ‘Inclusive Kilometre’, where all the pupils, and it included all those with impairments, participated in walking, running, wheeling around the perimeter of the grounds. Even joint-headteacher Claire Pickard joined in tying her legs together.

“The children all embraced the idea, helping each other and learning so much about disability.

“I fully endorse the school for their work in including all their pupils in all activities – focussing on how everyone can join in.”
