Cambridge United have started their pre-season campaign with a bang.

Joe Dunne’s side have faced St Neots Town and Cambridge City, and earned convincing wins in both matches.

George Maris scored two second-half goals as Cambridge United started with a 7-1 win at St Neots.

They gained an early lead when Paul Lewis scored after taking a quick free kick.

Barry Corr doubled the U’s advantage just before the break, before St Neots’ James Peters pulled one back.

Liam O’Neil prodded in United’s third after the restart.

Young keeper Finlay Iron saved a penalty from St Neots’ Dylan Williams and, on the break, David Amoo crossed for Ade Azeez to make it 4-1.

Brad Halliday finished off a sweeping move for the fifth goal, and then Maris struck with a quickfire brace – including an individual effort – to complete the victory.
