Centre-half back on loan at the Abbey.

George Taft has returned to Cambridge United on loan.

The 24-year-old centre-back spent the first half of the season at the Abbey Stadium on a temporary deal from Mansfield Town.

He made 12 appearances and helped the U’s keep six clean sheets before Christmas.

And he is now returning for what will be a third spell at United, having previously been on loan from Burton Albion in 2015. He made 11 appearances during that time.

Taft will stay with the U’s until the end of the season, and will be a boost to the club after the shoulder injury suffered by captain Leon Legge.

He will be in contention for a place in the U’s squad for the trip to Coventry City tomorrow night (January 30).
