Georgie Plunkett savours success at British Rowing Masters Championships

And Gill Cooper and Judith Weik earn silver medal

Georgie Plunkett celebrated golden glory at the British Rowing Masters Championships.

The Cantabrigian Rowing Club member was first in the women’s Masters A single sculls for the second year in a row, beating Abingdon’s Kate Garrow by five seconds. She will next race alongside Harriet Cross, Cecilia Collins Taylor and Alice Brownjohn at Henley Women’s Regatta.

Cantabs’ Aquaphobes masters men’s squad took third place in the non-championship masters ABC eights and fourth in the coxed fours in their debut at the British Masters.

There was a silver medal for Gill Cooper and Judith Weik in the women’s Masters C pairs’ event, and they will next compete at the Henley Masters Regatta.

Christina Woolner and Sue Hakenbeck are a new Cantabs crew, and they were second in the non-championship masters ABC double sculls event.

Two crews from Cantabs went to Poland to compete in the Warsaw International Head.

In a shortened race on the Vistula River, their women’s masters crew of Sue Lacey, Jenny Darsley, Elena Provenzano, Jane Thorpe, Anne McConville, Clara Aranda, Hannah Becker, Darcy Weaver coxed by Tracey Allison won silver in 13min 46sec.

The men’s masters crew of Ray Gay, Paul Reis, Phil Brownjohn, Paul Robinson, Tim Walker, Phil Gunning, Kelly Bolen, Gavin Swanson and cox Katrina Purser were fifth in 12.18.
