Histon slip further off United Counties League Premier Division South play-off pace after 2-0 loss to Rugby Borough

Histon dropped further off the pace in the United Counties League Premier Division South play-off race with a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Rugby Borough on Saturday.

The Stutes went into the encounter at Bridge Road having won none of their previous five games in all competitions.

And that sequence has now stretched to six fixtures after third-placed Rugby headed back to Warwickshire with all three points in tow.

Rugby broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Shad Reza finished off a neat team move with a close-range finish at the back post.

And the away side remained a goal in front until stoppage time at the end of the contest when substitute David Kolodynski made sure of the outcome.

The loss has left Chris Nunn’s side sitting 11th in the Premier Division South standings with a nine-point gap to the top five.

Histon will seek to kickstart a much-needed upturn in form on Saturday (15 March) when they entertain fifth-placed Daventry Town.

October’s reverse fixture between the two sides in Northamptonshire went the way of Histon, who ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Tom Binder and Pharrell Anderson.
