Cambridge City continue to struggle for goals but extend their unbeaten run with Sutton Coldfield Town draw

Cambridge City extended their unbeaten run in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division on Saturday by playing out a 0-0 draw at Sutton Coldfield Town.

Both sides had opportunities to take maximum points from the encounter in Warwickshire, with Mikey Davis and Stefan Broccoli going close on a couple of occasions for the visiting Lilywhites.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, hosting Town did manage to put the ball in the net during the second half but the goal was ruled out for a foul on City goalkeeper Joe Welch in the build up.

The result has left Robbie Nightingale’s side sitting 14th in the table ahead of a home encounter against 12th-placed Walsall Wood on Saturday (October 21).

And while City head into that fixture proving to be a tough nut to crack for opposition teams, they are also having troubles of their own in the goalscoring department, having found the net just once in their previous four games in all competitions.

In transfer news, the club has confirmed that Ben Bradley and Ed Tassell have signed for lower-league Haverhill Rovers on dual registration terms.

The move to the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North club is seen as an opportunity for the pair to get some game time under their belts as they step up their recovery from injury.

Meanwhile, the club has achieved its crowdfunding target that will give the go ahead for the installation of a changing room block at their new state-of-the-art stadium in Sawston.

The club needed to raise £43,000 in order to proceed with the work, which will allow people to use the 3G community pitch before the rest of the facility is officially opened.

A post on the club’s Facebook page read: “The Crowdfunder has been achieved.

“Thank you to all the people and businesses that have supported this cause.

“We can now provide changing facilities for the community and all our teams.

“Too many people to thank personally but one huge shout out has to go to our general manager Alice Dewey for her persistence and dedication in getting this over the line, especially in the final 48 hours.

“We are all overwhelmed by the dedication and support that this club gets and on top of that, we are just a stone’s throw away from opening the stadium to play Pitching In Northern Premier League football in the very near future.”
