Gog Magog powered to victory in the Cambridgeshire Area Golf Union Goddard Cup final at Saffron Walden Golf Club.

They were up against Ely City, and surged into a 3-1 lead after the morning foursomes.

Dominic Clemons and Dave Quinney earned a one up win over Ely’s Isaac Rowlands and Shane Hornsby.

It was the same result as Tom Williams and Tom Rogers overcame Alfie-Guy Pinkney and Ross Wilson, while Richard Temple and Iain Saberton defeated Damien Miller and Jack Kirby 2&1.

Ely got on the board through James McLaughlin and Chris Nixon’s 3&2 triumph over Ed Dimambro and George Howard.

The Gogs players were rampant in the singles. Dimambro (6&4), Clemons (5&3), Quinney (5&3), Temple (4&3), Williams (4&3) and Sabberton (one up) helped them to a 6-2 win, for an overall 9-3 success.

Ely’s points came through McLaughlin (2&1) and Wilson (3&2).

There was disappointment for Rogers in the Wheeler Salver though, as he lost 2&1 to Jeremy Baldwin on his home course.
