Cambridge United head coach Neil Harris hoping to add one more attacker to his squad before 11pm transfer deadline
Cambridge United head coach Neil Harris is hoping to add one more attacking player to his squad before tonight’s transfer deadline.
The U’s have signed Lyle Taylor, James Gibbons and Macauley Bonne so far this month, with the latter having sealed his loan switch from Gillingham earlier today.
Clubs have until 11pm this evening to get their business done, with a number of deals expected to go down to the wire.
And United could well be involved in the late drama as Harris, who saw one signing fall through last night, seeks the ‘perfect window’ with a fourth new recruit.
He said: “We’re busy searching. Macauley was agreed yesterday and I went to bed last night happy that I thought we had four, but by the time I went to sleep we had three!
“The recruitment guys are in today and have been busy all day trying to find a fourth. It will be an attacking player, a wide player.
“But if it doesn’t materialise then I’m really happy with where we’re at. Again, being clear with everybody, we’re searching for that extra player but it has to be the right one.
“I’m not going to damage where I think the group is at today just for the sake of it with another number. It’s not about that, it’s about finding the right combinations.
“I’m really, really pleased with where we’re at, really pleased to have signed two experienced strikers and a versatile full-back. All three add good competition and strength to the group.
“If we can add a fourth it would be the perfect window so let’s see what the future holds in the next few hours.”
