Cambridge United boss Neil Harris aiming for back-to-back League Two wins away at Shrewsbury Town

Back-to-back league wins is very much on the Cambridge United agenda going into this weekend’s trip to Shrewsbury Town.

While it has been a largely positive start to life back in League Two for the U’s, so far they have been unable to register consecutive victories.

And having ran out 3-1 winners at home against Crawley Town last Saturday, that is the target for Neil Harris and his side up against a Shrewsbury outfit that find themselves languishing second from bottom having chalked up just one victory from their 11 outings.

“Shrewsbury will be desperate to win – they’ve not won at home for a long time,” said United head coach Harris, who has revealed that Sullay Kaikai and Dom Ball could both return to the squad for the trip to Shropshire.

“We’ve got to make sure our mentality is as good as it has been for the majority of the season. We’ve got to nail that and continue from Crawley at home, where it was a different sort of game to others we’ve faced this year.

“It was a little bit more counter-attack based, where we had to sit in a shape and be patient. We were very patient in that approach and then ruthless when the time came.

“There’s been other games where we’ve dominated a lot more of the ball and I think this is going to be a mixture of both. We’re going to have to have good shape because they’re a team that can play forward really directly and get around second balls, but they can also pass the ball as well.

“It’s just not happened for them this year for whatever reason. I look at Michael’s squad and think he’s got some good players and he’s probably scratching his head as well at why they haven’t got more results.

“We know it’s going to be a huge test and a huge challenge. Ultimately for us, you can never dictate what an opponent is going to do. I’m not going to second guess what Shrewsbury are going to do at the weekend – all I can do is focus on us and making sure mentally and physically we’re in the right place.

“Ultimately I put it on the changing room a little bit, we want to win back-to-back league games. We’ve got no given right to do it, we have to earn that right and we’ll have to earn it on Saturday.”

Cambridge have won the last three meetings between the two sides and are unbeaten across the four previous encounters in total.
