Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge begin a new campaign of women’s rugby
A new campaign of women’s rugby started this week at Hills Road Sixth Form College.
Coached by Adrian Medd, the programme has gone from strength to strength in recent years.
Collectively the squad has reached the semi-final and the final of the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s competition, as well as producing a number of players that have gone on to link up with rugby squads at university.
Success at the Association of Colleges (AoC) finals has also resulted in Hills Road, who have a pathway partnership with Saracens, being included in the AoC Premier Women’s League South this season.
Medd, who will host the first training session of the season tonight (Wednesday), said: “We are an elite state sixth form college that focuses on academic achievement, not rugby, and the purpose of the talented players in college is to help the development of the less experienced and complete beginners who join our squad each year.
“For me, the main satisfaction arises from knowing that so many girls over the years have developed a passion for the game, which they have gone on to enjoy at university and in clubs where they meet and make friends for life.
“Their achievements on the rugby field are a bonus and an inspiration to the new girls who come into the college each year.”
Girls from Long Road Sixth Form College and Impington Village College will also form part of the squad.
