Histon Ladies celebrating promotion to the Eastern Region Women’s Football League

Histon Ladies are celebrating confirmation that they have been promoted.

The news is reward for an impressive campaign in the Cambridgeshire Women’s and Girls’ League, during which they finished second to champions Cardea, who also pipped them in the League Cup final.

Nevertheless, the Stutes have still been elevated to a higher level and from next season will ply their trade in the Eastern Region Women's Football League Division One North alongside the likes of Newmarket Town, St Ives Town, Stevenage Development and Yaxley Phoenix.

Speaking shortly before the promotion was rubber stamped, manager Kevin Jacklin said: “With my first season at Histon Ladies now over, it is time to reflect on the many positives that the ladies can take away from this campaign.

“To finish runners-up in both the league and cup to a very good Cardea side is no mean feat, especially as a lot of our players are new this season.

“As for the future, we have applied for promotion to the Eastern Region League and all indications are positive so far.

“We also aim to have a new development team who will play in the county league and will enable some good local younger players to experience ladies football for the first time.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all supporters, players and club officials for making me so welcome and for all their support during the season.

“Matt Payne and Kevin Knock have also provided fantastic support and assistance. I am so grateful that both of them will continue with the ladies next season.”

Histon Ladies are on the look out for new players for next season for both the first team and the soon-to-be launched development squad.
