Simon Swinton and Ed Rolph were on target for Histon as they beat Hullbridge Sports 2-1 in BetVictor Isthmian League, North Division.

Dan Brown and Rolph went close for the Stutes in the first half, but it remained 0-0 at half time.

After the break, Swinton’s deflected effort gave Histon the lead after 53 minutes.

Minutes later, Histon suffered a blow as keeper Sam Roach was sent off for handling outside his area, with midfielder Buster Harradine taking over between the sticks.

However, five minutes later, Rolph glanced in a header to make it 2-0 to Histon.

Sports reduced the arrears in the 68th minute, but they were unable to find an equaliser as Histon held firm.

Histon are away to Tilbury this Saturday (November 2).

Cambridge City were knocked out of the Buildbase FA Trophy last Friday, losing 3-0 at home to Needham Market in the first round.

The Lilywhites, who are 15th in the table, are back in league action this Saturday at home to Basildon
