Matt Green makes debut for the Stutes

Matt Green marked his first appearance for Histon by helping them to a 3-1 win over Cambridge City in the Cambs FA Professional Cup.

In the pre-season friendly between the Glass World Stadium landlords and tenants, the Stutes had the edge.

Green was making his first appearance for Histon having joined the Thurlow Nunn League side from Mildenhall last week.

The attacking midfielder had moved to Dean Greygoose’s side from Over Sports in 2014, and became a virtual ever-present in the heart of the Bostik League club’s midfield.

His combative style made him a popular figure with the crowd at Recreation Way, and he went on to make 45 appearances in their promotion-winning season.

But Green has made the step down a division to link up with Lance Key’s Histon.

It was City that took the lead on Saturday though, with summer signing Lewis Whitehead scoring after 30 minutes.

Dan Brown equalised for Histon after 43 minutes, and a minute later made it 2-1.

Rob Ruddy got with Histon’s third after 80 minutes.

City have a friendly at Needham Market on Saturday (July 28), while Histon continue their pre-season at Yaxley.
