Histon bounced back from an opening game defeat to win 3-2 against Soham Town Rangers in the BetVictory Isthmian League, North Division.

Having lost 3-1 to Heybridge Swifts on Saturday, the Stutes responded in good fashion in midweek at Julius Martin Lane.

Lee Smith gave them the lead after 10 minutes through a free kick, and they doubled their advantage seven minutes later when Smith's cross was headed back across goal by Evan Key for Max York to finish from close range.

It was 3-0 after 54 minutes as Ed Rolph finished off a loose ball in the area.

Soham pulled a goal back after 68 minutes, and further reduced the arrears from a penalty after 85 minutes, but Histon held on to secure the three points.

Histon’s return to Step 4 ended with a 3-1 home defeat to Heybridge Swifts.

The visitors were 2-0 up inside eight minutes, and had a third after 30 minutes.

Smith stooped low to head home three minutes after the break but, despite Key and Dan Brown both hitting the post, it was not to be for Histon.

The Stutes are away to Bury Town in the FA Cup, preliminary round this Saturday (August 24).
