Evan Key left it late to earn Histon a 1-0 win over Brantham Athletic in the Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division table.

The Stutes seemed to be heading for a second draw in four days until Key struck in the second minute of injury time.

He latched on to a ball just outside the area and hit a dipping shot over Brantham keeper Luke Avenell.

The win has given them a six-point lead over Woodbridge Town, with two games in hand.

Last Saturday, Histon were held to a 2-2 draw by Kirkley & Pakefield.

The Stutes went ahead in the 36th minute as Dan Brown raced on to Max York’s long clearance, and as the Kirkley keeper came to the edge of his area, the striker headed over him into an empty net.

Kirkley equalised in the 68th minute through Matty Brown, but Histon went back in front in the 74th minute as James Chivers headed in.

But Kirkley fought back again, equalising through Jack Herbert in the 83rd minute, and it finished 2-2.

Histon are at home to Stowmarket this Saturday (March 2), and then Gorleston Town are the visitors on Tuesday, March 5.
