Histon beat Easington Sports to record first victory since middle of October

Histon halted a four-match winless sequence with a 3-1 victory at Easington Sports on Saturday.

The Stutes made the 168-mile round trip to Oxfordshire having last won on 12 October when they chalked up a 2-0 triumph at Daventry Town.

They had also lost on their two previous visits to Easington, but it was a case of third time lucky for Chris Nunn’s men, who have moved up to 10th place in the United Counties League Premier Division South standings.

Histon broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Matty Allan latched on to Taylor Franklin’s pass before rounding the home goalkeeper to roll the ball into an empty net.

And the lead was doubled within three minutes courtesy of Luke Crisp’s close-range effort.

Hosting Eastington halved the deficit with a quarter of the contest remaining, but Histon responded swiftly to restore their two-goal advantage. Joe O’Neill’s cross was headed back across goal by captain Max York and Crisp was on hand to turn in his second goal of the encounter.

By chance, next Saturday (16 November) Histon will host Easington in the reverse fixture at Bridge Road.

The two sides are locked on 20 points from 15 outings, with Histon sitting higher in the table by virtue of their superior goal difference.
