Histon’s FA Cup run for the 2019/20 campaign was brought to an end with a 3-0 home defeat to Maldon & Tiptree in the first qualifying round.

Tyrique Hyde gave the Isthmian League, North Division front-runners an early lead from inside the area.

The Stutes responded by hitting the bar through Max York and Danny Gould, and it remained 1-0 at half time.

After the break, Histon struggled to find any rhythm and Maldon & Tiptree doubled their advantage after 55 minutes through Kojo Awotwi and got their third in stoppage time through Jorome Slew.

They bounced back with a 2-2 draw at Harlow Town in the Velocity Trophy last night.

Matt Green and Dan Brown were on target for the Stutes, who lost the extra point available in the penalty shootout, lost 4-2.

Histon are back in league action this Saturday (September 14), at home to Witham Town.

Cambridge City have made headway in the Velocity Trophy.

After a 5-3 win over Soham Town Rangers – when Max Booth (2), Arel Amu, Isaac Maynard and Matt Sparrow were on target – the Lilywhites faced Hertford last Saturday.

The sides could not be separated in normal time so, having finished 0-0, it went to penalties.

Lewis Rolfe, Booth and Adam Watkins were on target in a 3-0 shootout win, giving City an extra bonus point.

City return to BetVictor Isthmian League, North Division action this Saturday, with a trip to Felixstowe & Walton.
