Histon returned to the top of the Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division table thanks to a 3-0 win at Great Yarmouth.

They took the lead in the second minute when Dan Brown weaved his way into the box and then calmly slotted a side-foot shot past the keeper.

It was 2-0 in the 60th minute. Pat Bexfield was taken down in the box, and captain Max York made no mistake, putting his penalty to the keeper’s right.

The Stutes completed their win in the 85th minute as Brown broke the offside trap to race clear and then squared across the six-yard box for Ed Rolph to stroke home.

After Godmanchester’s 2-2 draw with Brantham Athletic, Histon are now top of the table by one point, but they also have three games in hand of their nearest rivals.

Histon are at home this Saturday (January 19) to Woodbridge Town.

Meanwhile, in the Evo-Stik League, Division One Central, Cambridge City were held to a 0-0 home draw by Barton Rovers.

The Lilywhites, who are 13th in the table, are away to Yaxley this Saturday.
