Histon have extended their lead at the top of the Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division to five points.

Fresh from booking their place in the Cambs Invitation Cup final with a 2-0 win over Soham Town Rangers, with Pat Bexfield and Salim Relizani on target, the Stutes took on Thetford Town away last Friday.

After a goalless first half, Ed Rolph headed Histon in front in the 51st minute, but Thetford equalised 12 minutes later.

In injury time, Evan Key was fouled at the back post, and Max York stepped up to convert the penalty for his 20th of the season to give Histon a 2-1 win.

With Godmanchester Rovers dropping points with a draw last Saturday, Histon are now five points clear with two games in hand.

They will face Ely City in the Cambs Invitation Cup final on April 10, kick off 7.30pm.

It will be their first final appearance since 2005.

Next up for the Stutes is Kirkley & Pakfield at home this Saturday (February 23), followed by another home game against Brantham Athletic on Tuesday (February 26).
