Histon sent to defeat by AFC Sudbury in BetVictor Isthmian League, North Division
Sean Marks and Freddie King did the damage as Histon were on the end of a 4-1 home defeat to AFC Sudbury in the BetVictor Isthmian League, North Division.
The Sudbury strikers both scored in each half to send the Stutes to a second home defeat in a row in the league.
It was a game that struggled to get going, with a stop-start nature creating a lack of tempo or rhythm from either side.
The Stutes had the first opportunity of the half, with Dan Brown’s side-footed effort from Ed Rolph’s cross taking a deflection wide. It was though, their best chance of the first period.
AFC Sudbury took the lead in the 17th minute. Tom Dettmar’s cross from the left was met by an unmarked Sean Marks to head home.
Freddie King had an effort deflected just wide for Sudbury minutes later, but they did double their lead in the 35th minute.
Rob Ruddy was caught in possession for Histon as King robbed the centre-back and then rounded keeper Phil Peachey to slot home.
Histon knew they needed to up their game in the second half, and made the best start possible.
Substitute Danny Gould picked up the ball about 30 yards out, moved forward a couple of yards before unleashing a rocket of a shot that flew into the back of the net.
It was just what was needed but they were unable to build on the goal.
Instead, Sudbury were carrying a greater threat, with Peachey having to deny Reece Harris and Ben Hunter.
Histon should have had the equaliser in the 68th minute. A great ball in from the right by Matt Green reached the unmarked Simon Swinton, but his header went agonisingly wide.
Sudbury gave themselves some breathing space by grabbing a third on the counter-attack.
King got the ball in acres of space on the Sudbury right and cut inside the area before finding the back of the net.
It was 4-1 three minutes later.
Another attack down the Histon left saw King in loads of space and he had time to dink a ball across the box for Marks to finish off.
