Histon undone by Aveley fightback in BetVictor Isthmian League, North Division
Histon surrendered a two-goal lead to suffer a 3-2 defeat to Aveley in BetVictor Isthmian League, North Division.
They took the lead after 22 minutes through a well-placed shot from Danny Gould.
Histon doubled their advantage five minutes later through an effort from skipper Max York.
James Chivers was forced off after a clash of heads, and Aveley then pulled a goal back in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time.
Lewis McDonald suffered an injury, which eventually led to him being carried off, but while he was down, Reggie Hubbard equalised for Aveley.
The hosts then got what turned out to be their winner through Hubbard on the hour.
Dan Brown hit the post for Histon, but they could not find an equaliser.
Histon drew 2-2 with Ware on Tuesday night in the Velocity Trophy.
Buster Harradine gave them the lead after 34 minutes, only for Gareth Madden to equalise after 59 minutes.
Lee Smith looked to have won it for Histon with an effort from distance in the 88th minute.
However, Ware replied again a minute later to see it finish 2-2.
It went to spot-kicks to decide the bonus point available in the trophy, and successful penalties from Pat Bexfield, Brown, Smith and Gould, and a save from keeper Sam Roach, earned Histon the 4-2 win and the extra point.
