Iona Tripp strikes late for Cambridge City III in draw with Cambridge South
Iona Tripp got a late equaliser for a depleted Cambridge City III as they drew 2-2 with Cambridge South in the mini league.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, City held their own to create a high number of chances but struggled to apply the finishing touches.
Emma Owens set up the first to give Becca Granger a tap-in for City, but South hit back to lead 2-1. However, Owens slipped a penalty corner move to Tripp to score City’s equaliser from close range.
Viola Davis hit a hat-trick for City IV in a 5-0 win over Royston.
Biz Whichello continued her scoring run and Grace Evans scored a reverse-stick volley having beaten two players.
Viv Rocco got the only goal of the game as City V won 1-0 against Cambridge Nomads.
City II won 5-3 against Cambridge University in a warm-up game for the students ahead of their Varsity Match.
After a run by Holly Smith, Katie Miller gave City the lead.
The university hit back almost immediately, and then took the lead on the counter-attack. It was 3-1 just before half time.
But City reduced the arrears at the start of the second half with a tap-in from Miriam Marti-Palet.
Phoebe Aldrich finished at the near post to make it 3-3, then struck again following a one-on-one to give City a 4-3 lead.
Xanthe Farman completed the scoring, and City’s win, with a rebound from her own saved shot off the keeper.
