Mark Bonner believes a promising future lies ahead for Ipswich Town midfielder Idris El Mizouni.

The 19-year-old had been on loan at Cambridge United since January, but his stay at the Abbey Stadium has been cut short after he suffered medial ligament damage in the 2-1 defeat to Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two fixture last Saturday.

The Tunisian has now returned to his parent club.

At the weekly press call, U's interim head coach Bonner said: “He is super talented. People saw that. He didn’t play all of every game but people will remember the free kick at Scunthorpe [in a 2-0 win in February] as a highlight perhaps.

“I felt he was just getting started for us and would have given us a real edge in our attacking play, a real quality and a good work ethic.

“I spoke to him earlier in the week and told him that he does something that is really important for young players - he is talented but mixes it with work ethic and humility. It’s quite a good lesson for lots of our younger players as well. He is a really talented boy that I think will have a good career.

“He is really well thought of at Ipswich and it is a shame for us to lose him, but it gives somebody else an opportunity."

Bonner added: “We thanked him for his efforts in the short period of time he was here and hope, in the longer term, there will have been some value to him.

“It’s a shame for us to lose him, but it opens up the door for other players now."
