But there is no joy for South or Nomads first teams

Skipper Izzy MacDonald-Parry’s second-minute goal set Cambridge South II on the way to a 4-0 win over St Ives III in East Women’s League, Division 4NW (S).

Izzy Echenique set up the captain to volley home, and then scored herself in the second half, after dribbling through from halfway.

Olivia Doggett grabbed a goal on her second-team debut and Lucy Davidson converted a one-on-one to make it 4-0.

Carly Brown’s goal could not inspire South’s firsts as they lost 3-1 to Pelicans in 2NW.

Pelicans opened the scoring, but Brown equalised after pouncing on a rebound when Flix Renny’s initial shot was blocked.

South had chances after the break, but Pelicans got two goals despite the best efforts of keeper Lou Tonkin and player-of-the-match Hannah Kenyon.

Cambridge Nomads suffered a 3-1 defeat to recently-relegated St Ives in 2NW.

After an even first 15 minutes, St Ives managed to get a foothold on the game and went into half time 1-0 up after scoring from a short corner.

Nomads regrouped and held their own for the first 15 minutes of the half, but St Ives grew stronger and despite some good defensive work and reaction stops from keeper Erica Hilberry, they managed to get two more goals.

Nomads did not let their heads drop, and pulled a goal back through a penalty stroke from Ellie Martin. Liz Freeman was player of the match.

South III suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bury St Edmunds III in 4NW (S), with sweeper Hannah Muncey and stand-in keeper Louise Walker sharing the player-of-the-match award.

Lou Fenwick netted twice for South IV as they triumphed 3-0 at Wisbech Town III in 5NW (S).

Player-of-the-match Alex Macpherson was also on target.
