Jake Carroll returns to the Cambridge United fold for Mansfield Town trip
Left-back recovers from injury
Jake Carroll could be back in contention for Cambridge United’s trip to Mansfield Town in Sky Bet League Two.
The left-back has missed the last couple of games with a problem sustained in training, but he has been back with the squad this week.
“Jake has had a good week’s training,” said U’s head coach Shaun Derry. “He joined the group so has had a Tuesday session, and will be training today and tomorrow and available for the weekend.
“That’s great for us as well because we have got a tight group of 21 or 22, and a number of young players in that group as well.
“For Jake to be back, it gives everyone a little bit of a boost which is great for us.
“We don’t want to be losing players, especially at this stage of the season because there are a lot of games coming around the corner and a challenging fixture list that we are approaching now.”
A slight hamstring pull forced Harrison Dunk off in the 2-1 win over Coventry City last week, but he is now back to full fitness.
But loanee George Taft is ineligible to play against his parent club.
And it looks like being a long spell on the sidelines for striker Ade Azeez, who has a knee ligament injury.
“Ade will be missing for a big chunk of the season,” said Derry. “It’s disappointing for him and us, but for the player it’s horrible.
“We will do it right, and we won’t take any chances with Ade. He’s a young player and one that has only just come to the club so we’ve got to make sure the recovery is perfect.
“He’s down, he’s despondent, a little bit low at the minute and we’ve given him a couple of days off to get his head around it.
“He will come back and get on with his job, and he’s just got a different job for the next three or four months.”
