Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club’s Jayden Ackerman wins three gold medals at National Junior Para Championships in Coventry

Jayden Ackerman was crowned a triple champion at the National Junior Para Championships in Coventry earlier this summer.

The Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club Disability Group member had already made himself known as a wheelchair athlete with plenty of potential after impressive displays at the County Championships and the British Wheelchair Racing Grand Prix.

And he continued that upward trajectory in what is his debut competitive campaign on the national stage with a trio of gold medals in the T54 classification for athletes with normal hand and arm function but no leg function.

Ackerman, who is a pupil at Soham Village College, won the 100m in a time of 20:57 and he followed suit in the 400m (1:08.34) and the 800m (2:38.85) – all in the Under-14 category.

The teenager will now switch his focus to the upcoming England Championships, which take place in Birmingham at the end of this month, and he will compete in the Under-15 section over the 100m and 200m distances.

The competition has been organised by Activity Alliance and will it once again feature the newly-introduced athletics age groups.
