Cambridge United Sport in the Community Awards champion of the month

Jeremy Walton is the champion of the month in the Cambridge United Sport in the Community Awards.

Walton is the current secretary of Histon Hornets FC, and has been involved with the club for more than 20 years.

When he started the club only had five teams, now he oversees the signing on of more than 350 players who are involved in more than 25 teams, ranging from under-fives through to adults football.

Simon Joslin, chairman of Histon Hornets, said: “Jerry is a much-valued volunteer and someone who the club simply couldn’t operate without.

“Jerry’s list of jobs at the club is endless, sorting payments, insurances, affiliations, signing on forms, as well as being the first calling point for all things Hornets.

“Everybody involved in the football club are extremely grateful for all the hard work and hours (for free!) that Jerry puts in.

“He is a truly great volunteer.”
