Joe Dunne hailed the character of Cambridge United as they made it four games unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over Notts County in Sky Bet League Two.

Medy Elito got the only goal of the game on the half-hour, slotting home after Jevani Brown’s effort had been deflected into his path.

It was a dominant display from the U’s and made it three wins in a row for interim head coach Dunne.

“It had a bit of everything,” he said. “It had a bit of flair, tenaciousness, courage, spirit. We spoke in the week about what it was going to take.

“With the quick turnaround of games, we need that kind of complete performance.

“There were a lot of good things going forward, and obviously a lot of good things defensively.

“We keep talking about learning from other games.

“We did speak about the 3-3 and the complications that they would give us because they are a good side.

“I’m really pleased for the goal and the win, but also the clean sheet.

“It allows the confidence to keep going. That’s a complete 1-0 win, but honestly, it’s still three points so if it’s 3-2 scrappy or if it’s 5-4, and it’s three points, we take what we can get. That’s where we are at the moment, and I felt we did a lot of good things going forward and we wanted to go offensive towards the end of the game because they are such strong finishers – the statistics are there.

“I thought the back four especially, and the guys in front, kept a good line and we’re just pleased to get another win.

“It’s another three points but our focus turns right away to Saturday.”
