Lilywhites kick off Evo-Stik campaign against Corby Town

Robbie Nightingale has dipped into the transfer market on the eve of the new season to take Joe Robinson to Cambridge City.

The 22-year-old centre-back has arrived from Bishop’s Stortford, and will join brother Ben at the Lilywhites.

Robinson learned his trade at Ipswich Town, having been part of the academy since he was 12, but after loan spells at Woking, Boston United and St Albans City, he was released at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

Robinson signed for Stortford and made 44 appearances, scoring five goals, in the 2017-18 season.

He will hope to be in contention for a starting place when City start their Evo-Stik South, Division One Central campaign at home to Corby Town this Saturday (August 18).

Behind the scenes, there have also been a number of changes.

Phil Brasher and Dick Crampton have resigned as chairman and vice-chairman respectively of Cambridge City Youth.

Ben Farmer, City’s head of youth development, said: “Phil and Dick restarted the youth setup here, they’ve done a fantastic job and we are looking forward to pushing the youth set-up on even further.

“We’ve had some wonderful young players represent the first team over the last four years and had it not been for their hard work that wouldn’t have happened.”

Mehmet Mimoglu has become chairman of City Youth, and first-team coach Neil Midgley has taken over as vice-chairman.

Farmer said: “Mehmet has been with the youth set-up acting as treasurer, he’s very good at his job and he will be a true asset to us.

“Neil needs no introduction from me. He’s a big part of the club and has always shown an interest in our youth and can often be seen at different games on a Sunday morning and it’s nice for us to have a direct link with the first team.

“Whilst we’re sad to lose Phil and Dick, the new appointments have us excited to see what the future holds.”
