Jono Adam stars at national championships

Jono Adam earned two gold medals at the Swim England National Winter Championships in Sheffield.

And there were also two bronze medals for fellow City of Cambridge Swimming Club member Jake Moxham.

At an event that doubles as the Commonwealth Games trials, Adam was first in the junior 50m and 100m backstroke. And Moxham won bronze in the junior 50m and 100m freestyle.

Adam was placed 23rd overall in the 100m backstroke on day one, and was 11th junior in the 50m butterfly and 40th overall.

Ollie Cashin was 23rd junior and 54th overall in the 200m breaststroke, Kathryn Loveys was 35th in the 50m breaststroke and Moxham was 11th junior and 47th overall in the 400m freestyle.

On day two, Cashin was 17th junior and 48th overall in the 100m breaststroke, and Moxham was seventh junior and 47th overall in the 200m freestyle.

Adam made the senior B final of the 50m backstroke to be 17th overall on day three, and was seventh in the junior 100m freestyle, and 41st overall, while Moxham was 37th overall in the junior 100m freestyle.

On the final day, Moxham’s junior bronze medal placed him 32nd overall in the 50m freestyle, Millie Emmans was 12th overall in the 400m freestyle and Adam was fourth junior and 31st overall in the 200m backstroke and 11th junior and 40th overall in the 50m freestyle.

City of Cambridge head coach James Freezer said: “A big congratulations to the whole team for a massive 2017.

“The club has competed at the top of all levels this year, from M11 and Arena teams through to hugely impressive county, regional and national results.”
