Cambridge City Under-16s Girls through to National Finals in Nottingham after winning East Indoor Super 6s title again
Cambridge City Under-16 Girls successfully defended their East Indoor Super 6s title last weekend.
The youngsters opened up at Queenswood School with back-to-back victories over their Bishop’s Stortford and Chelmsford counterparts.
That set up a decider clash with similarly unbeaten Old Loughtonians and City made the perfect start thanks to three unanswered goals.
Their opponents went on to spark a nervy final few moments by pulling a couple of goals back, but City held out to book their place at the National Finals in Nottingham next year.
Meanwhile, the club’s under-16 boys just missed out on following suit at their own East Indoor Super 6s event at the same venue.
City had two players drop out with illness on the day but it did not stop them from getting off to a positive start as goals from Alfred Warren, Teddie Clifton and Miles Lax-Tanner secured a 3-1 win over Norwich Dragons.
Like the girls’ team, they then took on Old Loughtonians in a winner takes all affair but on this occasion it was the club from Essex who were celebrating at the final whistle thanks to a goal in each half, which sealed a 2-0 victory and their passage into the National Finals at City’s expense.
