Cambridge Nomads lose by odd goal in seven during East Men's League clash at St Ives
Cambridge Nomads suffered a 4-3 defeat from their East Men’s League Division 1 North trip to St Ives on Saturday.
Having found themselves 3-1 down, it appeared that goals from Julian Wreford, Martin Hamon and Mikey Halton had rescued visiting Nomads a point.
However, a late penalty strike robbed Nomads of a share of the spoils.
Cambridge Nomads II fared better in their East Men’s League Division 3 North clash with St Ives III as they ran out 3-2 winners.
Nomads got off to the perfect start when Mel Ragnauth put them in front with just two minutes on the clock, but St Ives soon took control and found themselves 2-1 ahead.
But Nomads rallied and after Richard Lloyd had drawn them level, a Paul Matthews penalty stroke put them back in the lead, which was preserved by some late saves from goalkeeper John Stephenson.
Cambridge Nomads III also showed good powers of recovery to win 3-2 in their East Men’s League Division 4 North West clash with Peterborough IV.
After falling two goals behind, the pendulum swung in Nomads’ favour as Zinny Longson and Temoc Rodriguez got their names on the scoresheet.
In the East Men’s League Division 5 North West, another goal from Longson was not enough to prevent Cambridge Nomads IV from losing 3-1 to Peterborough VII.
In the East Women’s League Division 2 North West, Cambridge Nomads rallied to earn a 2-2 draw at Peterborough.
The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead, only for Sarah Warren to halve the deficit before the same player struck from a penalty corner.
