A late try sent Cambridge to a 19-15 defeat to previous table-toppers Cinderford in National League One.

It was a good start to the game for the hosts as hooker Mike Mayhew touched down in the sixth minute.

Cinderford, who had won their first three games of the season, hit back through a try from No 8 Harry Hone, which was converted by Stefan Hawley.

However, Hone’s game was to finish in the 15th minute as he was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle.

Ned Brown touched down for Cambridge in the 21st minute, and Rhodri Adamson landed the conversion to put them back in front.

Ben Adams was sin-binned for Cambridge just before the break, but the hosts still led 12-7 at half time.

The scores were brought level in the 52nd minute as Nathan Taylor touched down.

Adamson’s penalty put Cambridge back in the lead in the 63rd minute.

However, there was a late blow for Cambridge as prop George Porter touched down in the 80th minute, and Hawley converted to give Cinderford a 19-15 win.

Cambridge are away to Rotherham this Saturday (September 28).
