Leon Legge faces spell on the Cambridge United sidelines

And David Amoo will also miss trip to Forest Green Rovers

No timeframe has been put on a potential Cambridge United return for Leon Legge.

The centre-back injured a shoulder in training last week and was ruled out of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Mansfield Town.

He will be absent again for tomorrow’s trip to Forest Green Rovers and U’s head coach Shaun Derry has confirmed that fans’ favourite Legge will face a spell on the sidelines, but is unsure how long the first-choice defender will be absent.

“I think with the type of injury that he’s got, with the fact that it hopefully doesn’t require any sort of operation, I don’t really think you can put a timescale on it,” said Derry.

“I just think with Leon you’ve got to take it step by step. The physicality of the man, just how big and strong he is, if anyone’s going to get back sooner rather than later it’s going to be Leon Legge.”

Another player set to miss the trip to Forest Green Rovers is David Amoo, who only lasted 10 minutes as a second-half substitute against Mansfield, having also gone off in the previous match at Colchester United with a similar hamstring problem.

And it is an injury that has dogged the right-sided midfielder all season.

“[Amoo’s] a little bit frustrated with the past couple of weeks,” said Derry.

“The highs of Crewe, the goal, the performance, the response from the fans; I think any player wants that.

“When you’ve actually had that and then you’ve had an absolute low only 48 hours later when you’re coming off just before half time [against Colchester], that typifies what a frustrating game this can be for the player.

“So I can understand the frustration. But if there’s one word of advice I can give Dave Amoo, it’s that I need him back for a long period.

“I don’t need him back for just one game or for half a game, I don’t need him back for one fantastic performance and then not see him again for four weeks, I need Dave Amoo back for the long term because we’ve not seen that.

“My frustration sat here now are exactly the same as they were six weeks into the season, such a frustrating situation.”

Piero Mingoia is still missing with a groin injury, while Jabo Ibehre serves the final match of his three-game ban after his red card against Crewe at the end of December.
