Lewis Cracknell’s point-scoring efforts proved in vain as a late rally condemned Shelford to a losing bonus point in a 29-26 defeat to Old Haberdashers in London League 1N.

The fly-half slotted four first-half penalties to give his side a 12-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, the visitors responded with a converted try, but Cracknell was equal to it with a touch down of his own to make it 19-7 after 55 minutes.

Old Haberdashers got a second try, but Brad Baker replied with a score for Shelford, which was converted by Cracknell to make it 26-12.

However, tries from Old Haberdashers in the 72nd and 78th minutes, with the latter being converted, made it 26-26.

The visitors then landed a drop goal in the fourth minute of added time to secure a 29-26 victory.

Shelford are away to Amersham & Chiltern this Saturday (October 19).
