Cambridge City drawn at home to Royston Town in FA Trophy after weekend win over AFC Sudbury
Cambridge City’s reward for knocking higher-league AFC Sudbury out of the FA Trophy at the weekend is a home first round proper tie against Royston Town.
Thanks to their 1-0 victory on Saturday, the Lilywhites featured in this lunchtime’s draw for the last 64 for the first time in 16 years.
And they will now bid to end a 17-year wait for a place in the second round of the competition when they take on the Crows, who like Sudbury ply their trade a level higher in the Pitching In Southern League Central Premier Division.
Royston, who have won three of their opening nine league fixtures to sit 14th in the table, will visit St Ives’ Westwood Road venue on the weekend of 26 October.
Chris Watters’ team reached this stage of the tournament courtesy of Saturday’s 3-2 triumph on the Suffolk coast at Lowestoft Town, which featured a stoppage-time winning goal from Ben Weyman.
Should the upcoming tie end all square, the outcome will be decided on the day via a penalty shootout.
Winning teams will receive £3,000 in prize money, with the losing sides set to pocket £775.
