Cambridge City suffer fourth straight after going down to defeat at Felixstowe & Walton United

Cambridge City suffered a fourth defeat in a row in all competitions during Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Felixstowe & Walton United.

In front of a crowd of 500 people on the Suffolk coast, the hosts collected all three points from the Isthmian League North Division encounter courtesy of an own goal from City defender Giani Ashley and Charlie Warren’s effort.

The loss has left City sitting 17th in the table – three points above the bottom four – ahead of Tuesday night’s home encounter against 14th-placed Concord Rangers.

And Lilywhites boss Jamie Cureton wants to see a reaction from his players after a poor first-half display at the weekend.

He said: “First half we didn’t show enough desire, enough hunger. We conceded two poor goals on our part.

“We had a little bit of a go at them at half-time, said what we expected and felt we got a reaction, which was just generally working a lot harder, being a bit more ugly and chasing things down.

“We limited them, stopped them playing and got on top a bit more. We had more opportunities at goal as well (in the second half).

“It’s frustrating because it’s not something you need to work on with tactics. Just work hard, compete and give yourself a chance in the game.

“Since I came in we’ve said no team should work harder than us, no team should have more energy. You have to start with that as a bare minimum and I felt we didn’t. Second half they turned it around and made it more of a fight.

“There are excuses we could put out – we’ve got players injured and we’ve put kids out, but ultimately whoever is out there should run around and compete. In the first half we didn’t do that.”

The match also marked the return of Kieran Bailey, who rejoined the club late last week following a spell at City during the 2016/17 season.

The midfielder has had stints with Maldon & Tiptree and Hullbridge Sports since his departure.
