Cambridge City slip to defeat during trip to face Rugby Town
Having eased their relegation worries by collecting four points from their previous two outings, Cambridge City slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Rugby Town on Saturday.
Mikey Davis scored for the second game in a row for the Lilywhites, but by that time hosting Rugby had already opened up a two-goal advantage via Michael Taylor’s brace either side of the break.
The defeat has seen City’s gap to the drop zone cut to five points ahead of their trip to Anstey Nomads on Saturday (10 February).
The third-placed Nomads are the only side in the division to still be unbeaten at home this term having won eight and drawn three of their 11 outings.
City have won just once on their travels in the league.
Meanwhile, former Sheffield Wednesday footballer Shaun Sowden has been appointed coach of Cambridge City’s Under-18s.
Sowden, who coached West Wratting to Kershaw League glory last term, will assist youth director Neil Midgely in the role until the end of the season.
In his last job as manager of Step 5 Eynesbury Rovers, the ex-Kettering Town and Histon player worked with City’s young goalkeeper Caleb Chandler, who is currently on loan with the Uhlsport United Counties League side.
