Linton Heights and Swavesey Primary Schools were the top performers at the South Cambs School Sports Partnership Cross Country at Wimpole Hall.

There were more than 800 runners taking part in the annual event, which was competed for over the 1,600m course by youngsters in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

The top three placed runners in each school scored points for their team, but individuals could also enter to compete for one of the top-three medal-winning positions in each race.

Linton Heights claimed the team crown for the Year 3/4 age events, and Swavesey took the trophy in the Year 5/6 age category, with the overall team results based on schools entering a team in all four year-group races.

The School Games values for the event were determination and self belief, and each school was asked to nominate a child demonstrating either or both of the credentials, with awards handed out at the end of the event.

Young sports leaders from Bassingbourn Village College and Comberton Village College, as well as the uniformed services group from Cambridge Regional College and other volunteers, helped ensure the smooth running of the event.
