Lisa Williamson struck twice for Cambridge City as they clinched a 3-0 win over Harleston Magpies in the Investec Women’s Hockey League, Conference East.

Williamson broke the deadlock from a penalty corner in the 20th minute, and City doubled their lead minutes later as Rebecca Daniel scored in open play.

Shortly into the second half, Williamson got her second goal, and City’s third, from a penalty corner to complete the win.

The result means City are second in the table, level on points on 24 with leaders Wimbledon with the same number of games played.

This Saturday (February 16), City travel to third-placed Hampstead & Westminster, who are a point adrift in third but have a game in hand.

Cambridge City’s hopes of earning a top-six place in the Men’s Hockey League, Conference East suffered a blow as they lost 6-2 at Richmond.

It was not the best of starts as Simon Mantell’s penalty corner and two strikes from open play by Josh Smith saw City trail 3-0 inside 15 minutes.

Karan Sofat made it 4-0 to Richmond before Euan Gilmour pulled one back for City.

Further goals from Sofat and Smith, for his hat-trick, sandwiched an effort from City player-coach Gareth Andrew as it turned into a day to forget for the visitors.

It gets no easier for City as they host unbeaten league leaders Old Georgians this Saturday (February 16).
