Ed Dimambro’s second win of the Cambridgeshire Area Golf Union Winter Series was not enough to earn the title in the fourth and final round.

The Gog Magog golfer was in fine form at St Neots Golf Club, hitting six birdies on his way to one-under-par 69, going out in 36 and returning in 33.

Nene Park’s Mark Phillips was making his debut in the competition and he shot 73 to take second place on countback from Danny Loveday.

There were a host of players going into the event in the frame for the title, and Tom Rogers made 74, Luke Ryan shot 76, Paul Hodgkin returned 76 and Toby Crisp hit 77.

It meant that Ryan prevailed as the overall winner of the series with 50 points, three clear of Dimambro. Rogers was third with 44, four clear of Loveday. Owen Davies completed the top five.

CAGU team manager Graham Goodman said: “Congratulations to Luke who played the most consistent golf throughout the winter and also to Ed Dimambro who delivered two Winter Series wins.

“The overall objective of the winter series was to make the CAGU golfers competitive over the winter in readiness for the county season.

“This objective has been met whilst giving valuable experience to the juniors to play with current county players. We now have a spine of county players for the start of the league season in a few months time.”
